Happy Friday, treasured folks. I hope you’re having a good one. I was rejuvenated by the breezy, cloudy weather where I am after taking a walk outside with Sadie just now. It has been a hectic week of work and life, and I’m beyond glad to start winding down and looking forward to a weekend listening my body and trying to do as little as possible. What are you looking forward to this weekend, loves?

I am joined on the podcast today by the amazing Livia Gho. Born and raised in Singapore, Livia is very much acquainted with the sounds from both the Eastern and Western world. A classically trained pianist, she is also proficient in voice and the Chinese zither (Zheng). Livia is a graduate of Indiana University’s (IU) Masters in Conducting program and received a Bachelor’s of Music (Composition) from the University of British Columbia, Vancouver, Canada. Livia is also the Founder of the Women’s Orchestra of Arizona (WOA), Music Director of the Scottsdale Congregational United Church of Christ and Director of Choral/Band Ensembles at Ridgeline Academy. As a performer and composer, Livia has performed in Carnegie Hall and the acclaimed Rose Theatre at Jazz at Lincoln Centre and has written for groups such as the Vancouver Symphony Orchestra and the Portland Gay Men’s Chorus. Livia was recently named as finalist of the 2021 American Prize Conducting Competition.

As breathtaking as her string of explicable accolades and achievements are, Livia as a person and human is a complete joy and honor to get to know. She’s nurturing, kind, enterprising, resilient, and her passion for and commitment to the art of music, conducting and education is undeniable. That spark in her eyes and energy in her being as she shares about her journey pursuing her passion, the setbacks and winding roads she went down before arriving at where she is today and her endeavors for her future left me inspired, hopeful, excited.
